19.01.2012 - Usain Bolt star of the 2012 Compeed Golden Gala

Rome again, for the second time in a row. Usain Bolt, the triple Olympic, double World champion and triple World record holder, will be the star of the Compeed Golden Gala, third leg of the 2012 edition of the Samsung Diamond League IAAF, to be held in the Olympic stadium of the Italian Capital city on 31st May.

The Jamaican athletics star will be competing in the 100m, the same race he won last year in Rome in 9.91.

“I am looking forward to returning to Rome and to be back on the fast track of the Stadio Olimpico for the Golden Gala – said Bolt commenting the news about his participation to the Roman meeting - I have great memories of last year’s edition: it was my first time running in Italy, and I enjoyed the fantastic crowd at the Stadium”. more

A great night of athletics was celebrated in the historic Olympic Stadium in Rome in front of 47732 enthusiastic spectators were thrilled by a fantastic men’s 100 metres which topped the bill.

Jamaican Usain Bolt recovered from a bad start from the blocks to overtake his compatriot Asafa Powell into the finish-line. Powell had a great start and led until the final metres of the race before being edged by triple world and Olympic champion Bolt who crossed the finish-line in 9. more

Reigning 100 and 200 metres and 4x100 relay Olympic and World champion and World record holder Usain Bolt spoke to media represantatives two days before the Compeed Golden Gala, the third leg of the Samsung Diamond League which will take place in the Olympic Stadium in Rome on Thursday evening.

Usain Bolt will run for the first time in his career in Italy in the 100 metres race where he will take on former world record holder and three-time Golden Gala winner Asafa Powell and three-time European 100, 200 and 4x100 relay champion Vhristophe Lemaitre from France. more

23.05.2011 - Di Martino drops out of the Compeed Golden Gala

High Jump European Indoor champion Antonietta Di Martino has withdrawn from the Compeed Golden Gala on 26th May. The Italian record holder will be forced to drop out of the meeting because a problem on her take-off leg has worsened.

World champion and 2010 World Athlete of the Year Blanka Vlasic is confirmed as well as Barcelona’s European silver medallist Emma Green and World and European Indoor silver medallist Ruth Beitia from Spain. more

22.05.2011 - Bolt is coming to the Compeed Golden Gala, Rudisha KO

The first contingent of world-class stars who will take part in the Compeed Golden Gala on Thursday evening, the third leg of the Samsung Diamond League IAAF, arrived in Rome this morning.

The first athlete to arrive was Berlin long jump World champion Brittney Reese, who came this morning directly from the USA at 8.30. Second on the podium was Portorico’s 400 metres hurdles star Javier Culson, who surprisingly came to the fore by winning the silver medal at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. more

With just nine days to go to the  Compeed Golden Gala, the third leg of the Samsung Diamond League IAAF, the organizers announce the starting lists with all the stars who will highlight the Rome meeting on 26 May in the Rome Olympic Stadium.

The men’s 100 metres will be in the spotlight. Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world, will make his seasonal debut and will compete for the first time in Italy. The first contingent of athletes who will be in the spotlight at the Olympic Stadium in Rome on 26 May, was presented this morning in the fascinating backdrop of the Sala della Promoteca in the Campidoglio during a press conference attended by Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno, the President of Italian Athletics Federation Franco Arese, the General Secretary of the Italian Olympic Committee Raffaele Pagnozzi and two stars of Italia athletics Antonietta Di Martino (European Indoor champion in the women’s high jump) and Fabrizio Donato (European Indoor silver medallist in the men’s triple jump). more

18.04.2011 - Compeed Golden Gala, Lemaitre takes on Bolt and Powell in Rome

The star-studded line-up of the 2011 Compeed Golden Gala will feature another top sprinter. On Thursday 26 May triple European sprint champion Christophe Lemaitre will line up against World record holder Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell.

The 21-year-old Frenchman dominated the 100 and the 200 metres in Barcelona and collected his third gold medal in the 4x100 relay. No other European sprinter had achieved this feat before in the history of the continental Championships. His name had already gone down in history on 9th July 2010 at the French Championships in Valence when he set the French record with 9. more
